How to change engine air filter in car

There are several car routine maintenance that you can do it by your self such as changing the engine air filter, cabin air filter, engine oil replacement, etc. A clogged or dirty engine air filter can cause your vehicle to run rough, idle rough, and reduce gas mileage.
Most car companies say that an engine air filter should be replaced every 15,000 miles or at least once a year. Replacing an engine air filter is an easy procedure and can be done in just a few minutes. This is how to change your car engine air filter...
Before changing engine air filter, the first thing to do is to prepare the new engine air filter. Just go to the local auto part store and ask the same engine air filter model for your car. If you are in doubt, just do the STEP 2 and STEP 3 below and bring the old engine air filter so you can examine for the right model of your car.
Pop up and open your hood and your filter is usually found on top of the engine. Since every car models has different engine air filter model and location, just find the big box with several clips around it and most box is connected to the engine with big air hose.
Old carburetor engines there will be a big round piece of metal on top of the engine a little bigger than a frisbee or a medium pizza. On newer cars that use fuel injection system, the filter will be on a rectangular housing that's located off to the side of the engine.

Once it's been identified, unscrew or unclasp the housing. Most of engine air filter doesn't need hand tools to open or remove. Just unclamp the clamps and move the housing a little bit to get some space to remove the engine air filter. Lift off the engine air filter from the housing and its ready to be replaced.
When removing the old engine air filter, remember the position of the engine air filter from the housing so you don't get confusing when installing the new engine air filter.
Since your engine air filter is dirty, it's safe to assume that the area around it will need to be cleaned as well. Use a vacuum cleaner to clean the area. This keeps any debris from falling into your carburetor or throttle body.
You can also wipe down the area with a cloth that's been dampened with a cleaning solvent. If you do this, be conservative with the amount of solvent and make sure the area is dry before moving on to step 5
