There are several types of car battery, and the most used types are flooded car battery. Flooded car battery needs regular maintenance to keep their performance as well. Check the battery level is one list from several items to checks for flooded battery.

Why we need to check battery water level regularly?

Checking battery water level regularly is important things to do because electrolyte naturally evaporates and every time the battery charges or discharges, a small amount of electrolyzes are changes into hydrogen and oxygen.


How do you know when your car battery needs water?

On most flooded battery, there will be a maximum and minimum battery water level indicator were marked on the side body of the battery. Some car batteries case are using solid color so its rather difficult to measure the water level from it's body. For this case, you should open the caps and see the battery water through the vents port.

If the battery water levels are touching the minimum level indicator, then you should adding battery water to the properly level (between the minimum and maximum). That's why we need to check the battery water level regularly.


What types of water to be use ?

To adding battery water, we need distilled water only. Distilled water can be purchased at most grocery stores. Distilled water isn't harmfull like acid liquid. It's just the same as usual water, but they have distilled

Never use any kind of water to add the battery water such mineral water or even the elecrolyte liquid. Adding wrong battery water will damage the battery cells.

How to add water to car battery ?

Before adding water to car battery, you need to open the vents caps above the battery case. There are many design vents cap. For single vents cap, you need to twist the cap to the left rotation to open, and twits to the right to close the vents caps. Do it to the all available vents caps.

Some vents caps are design with one ore two caps for all battery ports. To open this caps model, just gouging the caps upward. Always remember, for every car battery with "free-maintenance" marked, they don't need to add water regularly. So, don't adding water to this types of battery.

Its better to use a clean funnel, sports bottle, turkey baster, etc. to ensure control of the flow and accuracy of the final level when filling each port. So you don't get overfilling battery water level.

Fill the battery water smoothly then check the battery water level using the level indicator, or if the battery don't have, just see through the wall near the port when we fill the water. If there are enough water, then you will see the water touching the end of the wall inside the vents ports.

Do this for all available ports then make sure that the battery level is in the right level for each cell. Twist the caps vents to the right to close and clean all the spilled water.
